Cavico has continued to build its order book in tunnelling with the award of a 5km bore at the Ngoi Phat hydropower project in Vietnam. The value of the tunnel works and associated access road is US$13.8M.

The contract award follows contract awards for tunnels and other civils works at the Ta Thang, Nho Que 3 and a Luoi hydropower schemes also in Vietnam.

Recently, the group’s first overseas construction venture saw its 70%-held subsidiary Cavico Bridge and Tunnel sign a contract with a Japanese JV to help build a road, tunnel and bridge highway on the border of Tunisia and Algeria.

Cavico said that it was sending 135 engineers and technicians to the north African project after their success with TBM work at the Dai Ninh hydropower scheme in Vietnam.

Earlier in the year Cavico Bridge and Tunnel was also successful in landing a major tunnelling work contract on another hydropower scheme at home – Thai An – which it hopes to complete by mid-2009.
