Komatsu is hoping to win orders for eight TBMs from customers in China by 31 March 2005. If successful, the move would take the manufacturer’s total orders for the financial year to 20. The firm is already assembling four machines in Shanghai.

To further consolidate its position in the region, the company is also planning to create a TBM maintenance and parts facility in Shanghai, while increasing the local procurement of parts from 30% to 50% next year. The components would include steel plate and hydraulic hoses.

Komatsu is hoping for a 40% rise in sales to US$497M by 2006 on the back of China’s surge in metro construction, particularly in Beijing.
