In May, T&TI learnt that Cross London Rail Links (CLRL) has awarded two further consultancy contracts for its Crossrail project development works, including the first tunnelling package, MDC 3 – Central Tunnels and Station East.

The multi-disciplinary contracts were awarded to Mott MacDonald and Halcrow. The existing team headed by Bechtel includes Scott Wilson Railways and Taylor Woodrow. Halcrow’s scope is MDC 4 – South East Branch, whereas Mott MacDonald has scooped the prestigious MDC 3 scope, plus an appointment as systems and rolling stock consultant. Consultancy roles for MDC 2 – Central Tunnels and Stations West, together with two quantity surveyor tenders will be appointed in due course said CLRL.

To date, the appointed development team consists of: Bechtel, Development Manager; Scott Wilson Railways, MDC 1 – Surface West and North East; Mott MacDonald, MDC 3 – Central Tunnels and Station East; Halcrow, MDC 4 – South East Branch; Mott MacDonald, Systems and Rolling Stock Consultant; Taylor Woodrow, Enabling Works Managing Agent. The team are responsible for developing an affordable reference design for the project (T&TI, May, p6) that will form the basis for construction once the Crossrail Bill has received royal assent and become an Act.
