Contractors for Singapore’s environment ministry have broken ground on the island-state’s S$7bn (US$4 bn) deep tunnel sewage system. First to start was German/local Philipp HolzmannSembCorp Construction joint venture on the $80M, 12.6km long Kranji tunnel. Other partners include Hua Liong Engineering & Construction, RDC Concrete, prefabrication specialist NGT Engineering & Construction and Germany’s Herrenkneckt, supplying the 3.6 m od TBM. Other North tunnel links are the 9.6km Queensway, 7.7km Bedok, 7.3km Ang Mo Kio, 5.8km Changi and 5.1km Paya Lebar tunnels. The scheme has treatment plants at Changi and Tuas.
