In late September, Dywidag-Systems International GmbH (DSI) announced it had acquired ALWAG, a leading supplier of roof support systems to the tunnelling market in Europe.
The acquisition, which went through on 21 September, was deemed both operationally and strategically important by DSI as it “provides a platform for DSI’s expansion in the production and supply of products to the tunnelling market globally”.
Alwag manufactures and supplies a complete range of ground control products for mining and tunnelling. Its main ranges include lattice girders, self-drilling hollow bars, power set resin, self-drilling anchors and roof pipe umbrellas. It employs 60 people, with a manufacturing base and head office located in Austria.
DSI, headquartered in Germany, has over 1,600 employees worldwide with operations across Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas. It was acquired by European private equity firm Industri Kapital, but is being encouraged to follow its growth strategy.
