Sandvik Tamrock Corporation has signed a supply agreement with the Leighton-Kumagai joint venture to deliver five new drill jumbos for the Route 8 Eagle’s Nest Highway Tunnel Project (T&TI, June, p6), in Hong Kong.
The project consists of a twin 2.1km three lane road tunnel and a 400m ventilation adit. Four of the rigs to be used are Tamrock Axera T12DATA three-boom fully computerised jumbos with a basket boom. Two units will drill the face side by side in the main tunnel, which measures 16.3m wide by 11.8m high.
A Tamrock Axera T08 has been selected for drilling the ventilation adit. The machine is a twin-boom jumbo that is equipped with a basket boom and computer aided drilling instrumentation.
