The second TBM, Joyce, which is currently being assembled on site, will start excavation of the eastbound tunnel in October. It will take approximately 18 months for both TBMs to complete the journey from the western worksite at Toowong to the eastern worksite at Kelvin Grove.

Both of the TBMs will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The rock and dirt excavated by the machines will be transported via an underground spoil conveyor to the Mt Coot-tha Quarry. Transcity¹s Environment team will undertake ongoing noise, vibration and ground monitoring during tunnelling activities.

Annabell is meeting peak tunnelling expectations of 15 to 20 metres per day, putting the AUD 1.5bn (USD 1.54bn) project on track for completion in 2015.
