FCC Construcción has won the contract to extend the Málaga Metro to the Spanish city’s new hospital.
The €46m contract covers a 653m-long tunnel and includes the construction of La Trinidad station and laying of the track. The route connects the end of the metro’s first section (Guadalmedina-Hilera) with Calle Santa Elena and Eugenio Gross.
The tunnel will be constructed by cut and cover.
The extension of Line 2 to the new hospital will travel through some of the most densely populated areas of Málaga.
Once completed, it is expected to carry 3.5-4 million passengers a year and will bring the total number of passengers on the entire network to 21 million a year.
