The Motorway Tunnel Number Two is part of the Tunnel System Number Three located between the 24th and 29th kilometers of the combined route. This longest tunnel system of the combined route consists of a railway tunnel, a 3,201m motorway tunnel, and a service and escape gallery that will be used for maintenance of the transportation tunnels.
"In case of fire, these slabs will protect the utility lines and the load-bearing structures of the permanent tunnel lining against destruction by fire," said Viktor Balandin, technical director of OJSC Stroy-Trest. "The need to install the slabs is primarily based on the fact that high temperatures adversely affect strength parameters of the tunnel major structures."
