The design-bid-build project is a key component of the city’s US$2bn+ ‘Pure Water San Diego Program’ which aims to purify recycled water to create safe, high-quality drinking water.
Among the project challenges are constructing the pump station 15m below ground, extensive microtunnelling, installing ten 750hp pumps, and constructing an industrial facility in harmony with the prevailing architectural styles.
Working closely with the City, the Flatiron team will provide value-engineering proposals to facilitate installation and maintenance of equipment and piping systems. It will also find innovative solutions to achieve cost savings and accelerated project schedules.
The programme – scheduled to begin in June 2021 and complete in 2025 – aims to provide a third of San Diego’s water supply by the end of 2035.
