Hindustan Construction Co (HCC) and Alpine Mayreder have won another metro contract on the airport link in Delhi.
Late last month, the client, Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC), awarded the JV a US$76M contract to design and build a 2.6km long NATM tunnel between Talkatora Gardens and Budha Jayanti Park stations.
The tunnel will have an internal width of 10m to take a twin track railway as well as an access and ventilation shaft, and the contract is to be completed by July 2010.
In September 2007, the two companies plus Samsung Corp were awarded a US$198M (excl VAT) contract from DMRC also on the Airport Metro Express Line-1, which is being built in the Phase 2 expansion of the city’s subway network. The contract period is 32 months.
The contract involves design and construction of two stations and twin bored tunnels each of 2.2km length, 5.6m i.d., between New Delhi and Talkatora Gardens stations. In addition, a 1.27km long cut and cover box tunnel is to be built with the two underground stations to take twin trail tracks.
DMRC has awarded a number of contracts over the last year for the Phase 2 works. On another section of the airport link, Larson & Toubro (L&T) in joint venture with Shanghai Urban Construction Group (SUCG) won a US$70M contract to design and build 2.4km of twin tunnel from the airport to Dwarka Sector-21. Two-thirds of the excavation will be executed by TBM and the balance by cut and cover.
On another metro branch, L&T also won a US$50M contract to build 1.5km long twin tunnels as part of the development of Saket station, which is at the end of the excavation works on different metro branch. Excavation techniques will include cut and cover and NATM.
The company was also successful in other contract on the branch, which includes the most excavation on the Phase 2 works. It is building the Udoyog Bhavan and Green park stations plus a 1km long cut and cover tunnel (T&TI, November 2007, p11).
A JV of Dywidag, Samsung, Shimizu, Ircon and L&T is to to undertake TBM excavation for running tunnels as well as build stations at Hauz Khas and Malviya Nagar.
