In the US, Herrenknecht Tunnelling Systems USA (HTS) has acquired TBM specialists Construction & Tunnelling Services Inc. (CTS) to “provide optimal and thorough services to contractors and tunnelling projects in the North American market for tunnel boring machine projects with diameters of 4.2m and larger”.
HTS and CTS signed a purchase agreement at the end of September. Herrenknecht said that with the acquisition it will be able to sustain its market position in traffic tunnelling for the future US market. It said it recognises the North American market as one of the most important future markets for mechanical excavation as when it comes to quality, safety, reliability and service, American contractors request the best.
The growing interest in innovative techniques for diameters of 4.2m and greater for traffic and service infrastructures has led Herrenknecht to incrementally enlarge HTS. With the acquisition of CTS, Herrenknecht said it hoped to offer an even more comprehensive service with regards to operation, maintenance and revision of tunnelling systems of all kinds. Future plans include local manufacturing and refurbishment as well as purchasing in the US, plus a guarantee of quicker support for North American clients.
