Germany-based tunnel boring machines (TBMs) maker Herrenknecht is set to present its solutions and services at bauma 2025, under the motto ‘Exploring the Green’

Bauma is a trade show for construction machinery from 7 to 13 April 2025 in Munich, Germany, where visitors can experience new digital applications and high-tech engineering.

Herrenknecht has been operating tunnelling projects for nearly 50 years. The company said it will present its latest developments in mechanised tunnelling technology in five key thematic areas, along with references to examples worldwide.

The presentation will focus on futuristic trends such as digitalisation, automation in tunnelling and solutions for the sustainable use of resources.

In addition, Herrenknecht specialists will present their solutions for the upstream and downstream processes of tunnel job sites.

The processes include robot-supported segment production, smart transport vehicles and precise navigation systems for effective muck management.

The company, in a statement, said: “More sustainable use of resources is a cornerstone for the future viability of mechanised tunnelling, as is continuing to increase efficiency and occupational safety.

“Due to the diverse and complex challenges of underground construction projects, this requires solutions with equally many facets and dimensions: from a multitude of detailed solutions.

Herrenknecht said its presentation motto ‘Exploring the Green’ allows visitors, customers and partners to explore its solutions in five thematic areas.

In the area of Utility Trends, Herrenknecht will address urbanisation, climate change, and energy transition demands with its advanced technologies, with ElbX project as an example.

The company will present advances in automation solutions to enhance the safety and efficiency of mechanised tunnelling, showing the HS2 project as an example.

Herrenknecht’s Green Tunnelling approach focuses on energy efficiency and resource conservation, customised to the individual needs of the customers and their projects.

The company said its service experts support 300 work sites worldwide, focused on spare parts, remote support, installation packages, and customer-specific training.

On the Digital Insights front, Herrenknecht is advancing digital transformation in tunnelling with its Herrenknecht.Connected portal supporting real-time tunnelling projects.

Furthermore, the company won the bauma Innovation Award 2022 for its Tunnel Enlargement System (TES), which allows restoration of the tunnel lining during ongoing rail operations.
