A prefeasibility study for the US$795M Ho Chi Minh City metro construction project has been completed, with work expected to get underway on the two subway lines totalling 20.6km by the end of this year. There will be a north-south line and an east-west line. Also included will be 14 underground stations, one surface station and seven elevated stations. With work expected to be completed by 2008, 30% of the budget will be provided by the city, with the balance coming from a loan from the German government, a Chinese railway construction group, the Austrian government and German banks.
