The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) said that after an epic 13 years of construction, the 12.9km Hsuehshan tunnel in Taiwan would be completely excavated by this Thursday 16 September.

The tunnel system consists of 57 tunnels with the two main tubes, 28 cross passages for pedestrian egress at 350m centres and eight cross passages for vehicular access at 1.5km centres.

It is claimed to be Asia’s longest highway tunnel and has suffered several delays due to water problems and mudslides.
