Work is due to begin this year on the Tongbai pumped storage project in Tiantai County, China. Local companies are expected to undertake construction. Designs for the electromechanical equipment, the underground powerhouse and the hydraulic system have been reviewed by US company Harza Engineering and include two 1.3km long, 9m diameter tunnels that will interconnect the reservoirs and the powerhouse.
