India is pushing ahead with plans to build the US$309M Rohtang tunnel after prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee commemorated the start of construction at the end of May. The 1.9km long tunnel will be the highest, longest and deepest tunnel in the country. Despite being 1,900m below the Rohtang pass, the link will be constructed at at height of 3,000m above sea level.
