UK-based High-Point Rendel, in association with Italian companies D’Appolonia and Technital, and Dutch group Tunnel Engineering Consultants (TEC), has been awarded a US$2.5M contract by Tunnel di Genova to undertake the preliminary design of a tunnel under the port of Genoa, Italy.

The JV will study immersed, bored and cut and cover tunnel options as viable alternative routes for the crossing. The JV will also address a range of environmental and cost impacts.

The tunnel will be around 1.8km long with either two or three-lane dual carriageways. The estimated cost is US$600M.

High-Point Rendel recently completed a feasibility study for Tunnel di Genova, assessing a range of solutions for crossing the port, including tunnels.
