Wrangles over payment for work done on the Jubilee Line Extension (JLE) in London is taking its toll on yet another contractor, French tunnelling company Soletanche, a subsidiary of Soletanche-Bachy. It is effectively being wound down and has decided not to tender for any future work.

The company suffered a loss of $9m on a turnover of $18.2m last year. Claims are on-going with London Underground Limited on payment for JLE contracts 103 ($102.4m) – Waterloo to London Bridge; and 105 ($160m) – London Bridge to Canada Water.

Soletanche was in JV on both contracts with Japanese tunnelling contractor Aoki, who has also been involved with payment claims for the work.
