Once commissioned, the Sealdah–Esplanade stretch is expected to provide an advanced transport system for the people of Kolkata and its suburbs.
It allows people to reach different parts of Kolkata and nearby areas from Sealdah and Howrah.
The Howrah-Sealdah Metro station is a part of Kolkata Metro’s Green Line, known as East-West Metro, and offers services in two parts, Green Line-1 and Green Line-2.
Green Line-1 runs between Salt Lake Sector V and Sealdah; Green Line-2 between Esplanade and Howrah Maidan.
The Kolkata Metro conducted the first successful trial run on the Sealdah–Esplanade stretches through a west-bound tunnel, which has only one station, Bowbazar.

It enables passengers disembarking Shatabdi, and Vande Bharat Express trains at Howrah to reach Ranaghat, Bongaon, New Garia, Dum Dum, and Salt Lake safely and economically.
