The award recognises the research and development of practical cutting-edge technology, with a special focus on the environment, resource efficiency and people. Market readiness and the prospect of implementation in practical use are key criteria.

This year’s five categories are:

  • Category 1 Climate protection
  • Category 2 Digitalisation
  • Category 3 Mechanical engineering
  • Category 4 Building
  • Category 5 Research

Applicants can submit their entries using the template on the bauma website.

In 2019 there were 138 entries for the award. Herrenknecht won the Machine category with its E-Power Pipe, a trenchless method for laying underground cables. The Design category was won by Liebherr Hydraulik Bagger for INTUSI, its INTuitive USer Interface, an operating system for construction machines, and the Technical University of Munich led the Research/Science category with its driver guidance system 4.0, which uses holograms to provide information to construction machine operators.

Held every three years, Bauma is a showcase and innovation driver for the international construction equipment, building material and mining machinery industries.

This year’s event will take place in Munich from October 24-30.
