Breakthrough was achieved last month on the final drive of the 20km long London Connection cable tunnel for National Grid. The Lovat TBM, Caroline, completed her 8km drive at Canons Corner, after boring from Cricklewood. Caroline was the last of three Lovat TBMs on the US$60.2M, 20km project, after Doris and Helen both completed 6km each. Murphy project manager, George Jackson, said “An excellent progress rate has been achieved on this project despite the challenges of both the route and ground conditions.”

The 3m diameter tunnel will carry 400kV cables linking the substations at Elstree and St John’s Wood.
