Opportunies in Kuala Lumpur as city authorities are proposing to build a massive flood alleviation tunnel that will transfer stormwater to the sea near Klang.

The city’s drainage and river management deputy director, V Kanagasivam, said proposals have "been submitted to the Economic Planning Unit for approval and funding".

If the scheme is approved, designs will be prepared by the city authorities and the drainage and irrigation department. The tunnel, which is likely to be built using pipe-jacking techniques, is expected to run from Jalan Jelatek via Petaling Jaya to the coast.

"We are targeting 2004 or 2005 as the deadline for the project," Mr Kanagasivamhe said.
