The initial study was conducted in 2010.

The second phase will expand the north-south line from Hotel Indonesia to Kampung Bandan (North Jakarta), with 8.1km of railway (seven underground stations and one ground-level station).

Dono said this study would be done in one year, confidently believing the project would be finished on time. "Delay of one to two months is not a problem," Dono said.

Several private and foreign companies have expressed interest in funding the project, Dono added. There are three alternative schemes of the project funding: the state and regional budgets, loans from privates sectors and public private partnership (PPP).

PT MRT is still reviewing the three schemes as each one has its strengths and weaknesses. According to Dono, the state and regional budgets can fund the project, but the budget needed, which is IDR 15-16tn (USD 1.25bn-1.34bn), can still be used for other projects. Private loans need a long administration process while PPP has a possibility of disagreement between stakeholders.
