Work on the CNY 455M (USD 69.6M) project to repair mudslide-stricken infrastructure in Zhouqu County, Gansu Province, Northwest China began yesterday, said a spokesman from the Gansu Ministry of Transportation.

The mudslide, which struck in August 2010 killing thousands of people, wreaked further destruction, damaging roads, two tunnels and seven bridges. All repair targets of the project should be met by October 2012.

The Gansu mudslide was the deadliest single disaster of the 2010 China floods.
