Parsons Brinckerhoff, in joint venture with PGH Wong Engineering, was awarded the contract to design the extension of the Muni Metro Third Street light rail transit line in San Francisco.
The new central subway extension involves a 2.7km long tunnel connecting Third Street and King Street with Chinatown. The contract also includes the design of four underground stations, conceptual and preliminary engineering, cost estimating, and analysis of the existing Environmental Impact Report (EIR)/ Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
Conceptual and preliminary design is scheduled for completion in 2005, with construction starting shortly after.
Phase 1 of the Muni Metro (at grade) is under construction, and slated for completion in 2005.
