NCC Construction of Norway has announced that it has signed a contract with the Norwegian Road Administration for construction of the Finnfast project that includes a subsea tunnel between the islands of Rennesøy and Finnnøy and a connecting tunnel to the island of Talgje.
Civil engineering is getting underway for the US$90.4M project that features a 5,684m long tunnel between Hannasand and Ladstein. The tunnel to Talgje will run for approximately 1,500m.
The Finnfast project will be financed by road fees, state investment funds and the savings from not having to support ferry services.
Knut Liavaag, a district manager for NCC, said: “This project was prioritised when we evaluated the very large number of major road contracts for which tenders were requested during the spring.” He added the project was “well matched to the capacity” NCC had built up in its civil engineering division.
