In China, the Ministry of Construction has announced that work will begin soon on new metros in Chongqing and Shenyang. This will end the long period of uncertainty over the construction of new metros and follows the start of a light rail project in Nanjing. Vice minister for construction Zhao Baojian said the metros would boost the national economy and stimulate the machinery and electronics industries.
