Several Norwegian tunnels are to undergo rigorous safety tests following flooding on the 7.3km long Oslofjord tunnel in August.
The tunnel had to be closed for more than a week after the pump and the alarm system both failed.
There are fears that this may not be an isolated case, and that electronic features on many Norwegian tunnels need to be upgraded. The director of Norway’s highway department has also called for the use of video surveillance.
