Over $0.5M has been awarded to the UK’s premier universities, Oxford and Cambridge, to collaborate on a major research programme into the effective use of soil conditioning and lubricating agents in association with tunnelling machines.

The three year study grant secured from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is boosted by a further $84 000 through the Pipe Jacking Association. Oxford University will focus studies on soil conditioning and lubrication agents in granular soils and Cambridge University on soil conditioning and lubrication agents in clayey soils.
