An underground freight railway could be built by the Australian Rail Track Corporation in Fairfield, on the outskirts of Sydney in New South Wales. Corporation project manager, Michael Magney, said a tunnel was one of the options being considered as part of its plan for a US$146M freight line from Macarthur to Sefton via Cabramatta, Canley Vale, Carramar and Villawood. City officials in Fairfield are now pushing for a rebuild of the existing passenger line in tunnel putting Cabramatta station underground.
