Perth city authorities in Western Australia are to ask for cash from property developers to finance the construction of two sections of rail tunnel as part of US$775.3M Perth urban rail plan.

The first section involves a US$12.2M link between William and Lake streets, while the second calls for a US$21.6M continuation of the tunnel between William and Milligan streets. The two tunnels are part of a long-running scheme to connect Perth with Northbridge.

Transport minister Alannah MacTiernan confirmed she would approach property developers for help. “We’re very keen to work with the private sector landowners to maximise the opportunities, both for them and the community, so we can get the opportunity to sink the line,” she said.
