The City of Austin, Texas, announced on 23 June a mandatory pre-bid meeting for the Waller Creek Tunnel Inlet project to be held on Tuesday, 19 July.

The inlet project comprises a 20,000sqf (1,858sqm) maintenance and debris handling building, creek channel enlargement and pond construction and an inlet shaft/underground works. The maintenance building will be equipped with debris screening facilities, recirculation pumps for the tunnel, pond and creek and associated electrical and SCADA systems.

The inlet is part of the Waller Creek Tunnel project, and forms the upstream creek channel water capture facility, according to the City of Austin.

During a storm event, the creek channel and pond structure will capture and direct flood water to a maintenance and debris handling facility for filtering before entering the tunnel. During dry weather, pumps in the facility will recirculate pond water and introduce lake water into the creek to maintain tunnel water quality and allow a base flow in the creek.

All vendors interested in bidding on the USD 32M project are required to attend the meeting. Bids are due on August 18, 2011 no later than 10:30 a.m., and they will be opened on the same day at 2:30 p.m.

There will be a networking session immediately following the meeting. Companies only interested in bidding as a subcontractor, are not required to attend; however, the City of Austin’s Small & Minority Business Resources Department encourages potential subcontractors to attend the pre-bid meeting in order to network with potential Prime Bidders.
