With approximately one month until the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, President Macron attended the opening of the €3.5 billion metro 14, a key element of the Grand Paris Express project. Metro line 14  will connect he athletes village in the North of Paris to the Orly airport in the South.

The 28 kilometre-long extension includes eight new stations and will create a direct link to the city centre from the Orly airport with a direct journey taking 25 minutes.

It is projected that upwards of 1 million trips will take place daily on the line by 2025.

The extension is part of the Grand Paris Express project, led by the Société des Grands Projets (SGP).

Part of the project involved 3kms of tunnelling work underneath Orly airport and saw for the first time in France an active Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) excavation beneath an operating airport.

TBM Koumba completed the work and was delivered by NGE – BTP and Webuild on behalf of RATPgroup
