In Italy, a Lovat TBM broke through to its reception shaft in the Roman suburbs completing a 600 metre drive through clay on 16 December 2004.

The 3.9m diameter machine was operated by local contractor Monaco S.p.A. on a 10 hours/shift, five day week basis. The TBM is currently being repositioned and setup in preparation for its next drive, which is significantly longer at 1.6km. The project schedule calls for the TBM to be launched in February.

Boths drives are part of the ACEA sewer duct for the city of Rome.
