Italian construction and civil engineering firm Webuild announced that Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Metro has opened four additional stations on the Orange Line (Line 3).

The four new stations are Dharat Al Badiah, Al Jarradiyah, Al Hilla, and First Industrial City.

Recently, Saudi Arabia’s Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) officially opened the Orange Line, also known as the Al Madinah Al Munawwarah Axis, with five stations.

The stations are Jeddah Road, Tuwaiq, Al Dawh, Harun Al Rashid Road, and An Naseem.

ArRiyadh New Mobility, a consortium of Webuild, Impregilo, Bombardier, Ansaldo, Larsen & Toubro, Nesma & Partners, and WorleyParsons is building Line 3, on behalf of RCRC.

With the four new stations, a total of nine stations on the Orange Line are currently available to people, and all stations are activated across the Riyadh Metro network.

The Riyadh Metro Network comprises six lines, spanning 176km, and connects residential and commercial districts with cultural landmarks across the capital city.

Line 3 is a 41km driverless metro line that runs east to west, connecting Jeddah Road in the west to the Second Eastern Ring Road near Khashm Al Aan in the east of Saudi Arabia.

It is mostly elevated along the western part of Al-Madinah Al Munawwarah Road, and is underground in the central section, along Prince Saad Bin Abdulrahman Road.

The Orange Line is expected to address the urban mobility needs of a growing population while enhancing the quality of life for both residents and visitors.

Also, an additional 13 stations, including the iconic Downtown Station, are planned to open throughout the year, according to Webuild.

Furthermore, the project aligns with the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

Webuild, in its statement, said: “Webuild Group has played a key role in delivering numerous metro projects worldwide, setting benchmarks for sustainability and innovation in cities such as Milan, Naples, Rome, and internationally in Paris, Copenhagen, Athens, Doha, Sydney, New York, and San Francisco.

“Recent achievements include the completion of the final section of Milan’s M4 line. The Thessaloniki Metro, the first metro system in the city’s history and Greece’s first driverless metro was also inaugurated in recent months.

“Currently, Webuild is involved in technically challenging projects, such as Line C of the Rome Metro and key sections of the Grand Paris Express, including the recently awarded Line 15 West and the nearly completed Line 16.”
