Anew Scottish hydro electric power station is to be built underground to reduce the visual impact of the scheme and its effects on the landscape.

The station, to be built at a cost of £3million, will be Scottish and Southern Energy’s first new hydro station since the 1960s. To be sited on the Abhainn Cuileig, south west of Ullapool, it will involve the construction of a small intake weir on the river.
