The team produced 1,750 4-tonne concrete tunnel lining segments in 120 hours at an average of only 4 minutes 7 seconds per segment, with the fastest segment cycle time achieved being 3 minutes 8 seconds.
The typical average time to create one segment is around 6 minutes.
So far more than 72,000 segments have been produced at the precast facility to line 11 kilometres of twin tunnels between The Bays Station and Sydney Olympic Park metro station.
Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport. Once complete in 2030 Sydney will have a network of four metro lines, 46 stations and 113km of new metro rail.
