Italian full service tunnelling firm Seli has established a local subsidiary in India to provide a range of services to main contractors undertaking tunnel projects in the country. The new business, Seli-India, is based in New Delhi.

Seli-India plans to supply TBMs, design and technical services for tunnelling projects to general contractors in India. The market in India includes increasing numbers of tunnelling projects for hydropower, water supply and transport.

Seli worked in joint venture with Jaeger to excavate the two 4.88m diameter inclined pressure tunnels for the Parbati II hydro scheme. The second of the bores, which the JV undertook as subcontractor to Gammon India, was finished just over a year ago.
