Last month, Seli completed the drive on the 7.5km long Talave water tunnel in Murcia, south east Spain with a 4.04m diameter double shield TBM. Seli supplied the shield and crew to main contractor Dragados. Work commenced in mid-December 2006 and breakthrough was 12 November. The daily average progress on the drive was approximately 30m despite the weak and variable rock conditions. Geology along the route comprised several faults, squeezing rocks, soft wet clays and a very large karstic cavity. Talave tunnel is one of the latest tunnelling projects in which Seli has worked with Dragados in continuous cooperation over the last 12 years, it said. In October, Seli completed the first bore of the Perthus twin tube for the main contractor which is working in joint venture with Eiffage..
