Seli will execute a project to bring clean energy to Sicily from the Italian mainland. Italian electricity company Terna awarded the EUR 38M contract for the ecavation of a 2.8km sub-horizontal tunnel, 7m-diameter, 353m-deep vertical shaft and associated works.

The double shield TBM used will be 4.09m in diameter and will be tooled to allow an extra 50mm excavation diameter.

Two sets of cables will travel from the Favazzina marine harbour in southwest Italy to Sicily. Excavation will begin in May 2012 and finish in March 2014.
