Revised plans have been unveiled by the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation for its US$4.75bn Sha Tin to Central line.

Under the amended plans, the underground line would run from Sha Tin to an existing major interchange at Hung Hom on Kowloon. A tunnel, probably an immersed tube, would be built under Victoria Harbour from Hung Hom to Causeway Bay, where an underground line will be built to the Central Business District.

The plans also include new stations at Causeway Bay and Admiralty. The changes have added US$193M to the total cost of the scheme. Consultancy groups are currently working on seven technical studies to finalise the preliminary design of the link. The original plans called for an 18km tunnel from Sha Tin to Central. Tenders are expected in 2005/06.
