Shanghai Urban Construction Group, in association with other local and Hong Kong-based contractors, has laid the first immersed tube tunnel segment as part of Shanghai’s US$210M outer ring road tunnel in China.
The firm’s partners are Hong Kong Construction, Shanghai Fareway Bureau and Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company.
The 108m long segment is one of seven units, between 100-108m long, to be laid in a specially dredged trench on the Huangpu river bed. The 43m wide, 9.5m high segments are being fabricated in a casting basin in Pudong, Shanghai’s new development area.
The 736m long immersed tube, is part of the 2.88km long outer ring road tunnel connecting Sancha port in Pudong with Wusong Park in Puxi, with the 736m of tunnel passing under the river. This should be open to traffic by the end of 2002.
