Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation has invited contractors to prequalify for two tunnelling contracts as part of the US$740M 15.8km second phase of Line 4 of the Shenzhen metro in southern China. These construction contracts are part of a package of eight contracts MTR Corporation plans to award.
Tenders are likely to be invited by early October after contractors were asked to express interest by 22 August. About 5km of 7m diameter tunnel will be built together with two underground stations. Construction, using TBM, is expected to start next year for completion in 2009.
Under the terms of an agreement signed with the Shenzhen city government, the MTR Corporation will be responsible for the design, finance and construction of Line 4 stage two. Once completed the MTR Corporation will operate the whole of Line 4 for 30 years, including stage one which is being built by the Shenzhen Metro Corporation. Australian consultant Meinhardt will be responsible for civils, structural, geotechnical and building services engineering design, while Hong Kong firm Aedas is the project architect.
