The Singapore Land Transit Authority (LTA) has awarded Maunsell Singapore (MCSL) the design contract for Stage 2 of the Circle Line.
The Circle Line extension builds on the first phase Marina Line, and will run from the city towards the harbour front.
The US$444M contract includes the design of 5.5km of bored and cut and cover tunnels plus five underground stations.
The design for Paya Lebar Station, which will form an interchange with the MRT East Line, and the bored tunnel linings will be undertaken by the LTA.
The route largely follows existing roads which will require temporary diversions at the station sites and at the entry to Kim Chuan Depot.
Construction tenders are due to be called in December with construction scheduled to start in June 2002. The medium capacity system is due to come into operation in 2006.
