Skanska has signed a contract with Sogn og Fjordane Energi (SFE) for the construction of a new hydro power plant, including water tunnels, in Norway.
The Øksenelvane power plant in Bremanger, on Norway’s west coast, will be built close to an existing facility.
The NOK434m (£30.38m) contract includes the construction of a new intake, new water tunnels, and an underground power station.
The new hydroelectric plant will replace the current power station, which has been in operation for over 70 years and requires extensive rehabilitation. It will produce 171GWh per year, which can supply 10,000 households with electricity.
“We have extensive experience from traditional hydropower developments and we are pleased to be able to contribute to yet another project that ensures better utilisation of renewable energy sources. We have collaborated well with SFE in previous projects and look forward to starting construction work in the new year,” said Anders Geirstad, executive vice-president of Skanska’s construction operations.
The project will excavate approximately 220,000m3 of rock mass which will be reused in other projects.
Construction will begin in April next year and be completed in March 2028.
