Two tenders close this month for high-speed rail work in Spain, one to build the Durango-Amorebieta/Etxano section in Basque country and the other for project supervision services on the Archidona-Arroya de la Negra stretch in Andalusia.

Bidders have until 16 August to submit tenders to construct the 4.6km long Durango-Amorebieta/Etxano section of the high-speed line from Vitoria via Bilbao to San Sabastian.

The section includes four tunnels plus a cut and cover length over a programme of 36 months, for an estimated US$107.7M (excl VAT).

The longest tunnel is the 703m long San Andres (100m² section), the next is the 661m long Urzelai tunnel (95m²). The shorter bores will be the 481m and 409m long Olabarrie I & II (85m² each) tubes and 172m of cut and cover tunnel.

Recently, bids were called for works in the Amorebieta/Etxano area also as part of the Basque ‘Y’ high-speed line. The 5km section is budgeted at US$118.6M with a 33 month programme. It includes two tunnels – the 505m long Orrape and 330m long Arteako (each 85m²) tunnels and two cut and cover stretches.

Earlier this year, bids were invited to construct the neighbouring 3.45km long section of the Basque ‘Y’ high-speed line running from Amorebieta/Etxano to Lemoa. The budget is US$84M and programme 29 months. The section includes three tunnels – the 1365m long Ganzelai tunnel (85m²), the 725m long San Roman tunnel (85m²) and the 326m long Marrageruena tube (95m²).

At the same time, a US$110.9M contract to build the 5.58km long Escoriatza to Aramaio section of the Basque ‘Y’ high-speed line was awarded to an Acciona JV. Construction works over 29 months include four twin track tunnels: Induspo (2224m); Uruburu I & II (475m and 460m, respectively); and Mazmela (384m).

Interested parties have until 6 August to bid for the project supervision contract budgeted at US$5M (excl VAT) for the 3.26km long Archidona-Arroyo de la Negra section of high-speed line between Bobadilla and Granada.

The contract involves provision of consultancy and construction supervision over the 36 month programme to build the link, which involves excavation of the 2170m long Archidona tunnel (85m²). The US$57.2M (incl VAT) contract was recently awarded to a Dragados JV.
