In Denmark a fire broke out in a maintenance engine in the northern tunnel of the Storebaelt rail link between the country’s two main islands of Zealand and Funen.

The fire broke out at 9:30 p.m. on 5 June. Three workers escaped to the southern tunnel and were taken to hospital for observation reported the Associated Press.

The blaze was quickly brought under control, although the southern tube was closed overnight to give emergency vehicles access to the scene. The link includes an 8km long twin immersed tube tunnel. The tunnel structure itself was not believed to have been damaged.
