
A Hindustan Construction Company and Tata Projects joint venture has been awarded the contract to build the Bhivpuri off-stream open-loop pumped storage project in Karjat, Maharashtra.
The €266.1m contract, awarded by Tata Power Company, includes the construction of 1.9km-long, 8.3m-diameter head race tunnel and a 78m-long, 3.2m-diameter tail race tunnel.
The joint venture will also construct a temporary cofferdam, intake structure, penstock, surge shaft, pressure shaft, powerhouse, lower intake structures, a new lower reservoir, adits, and roads and drains.
HCC has been involved in the development of nearly 26% of installed hydropower capacity in India and is currently working on five hydroelectric power projects, including the 1000MW Tehri pumped storage system in Uttarakhand.
