The tunnelling project, undertaken by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), comprises a 5.7km double-lane tunnel, two access sections, one underground station and three underground structures.

CSCEC Israel general manager Lou Yusai said three EPBMs, each with a 7.54m diameter and 115m length, would be employed on the project.

The Tel Aviv Light Rail Project, which involves the construction of the Red, Green and Purple lines, is the largest government infrastructure project since the founding of Israel.

The 39km Green Line will connect the centre of Tel Aviv with the northern and southern regions. It will run from from Rishon LeZion, a city south of Tel Aviv, northwards through Holon, then through central Tel Aviv before dividing into two northbound branches. It is scheduled to open to passengers in 2027.
